Fashion to me is something that has been passed down
though the generations in my family. My mother taught
me to sew before I can even remember. All my clothes,
when I was little, I watched her make. Fashion design
and the construction of clothes is something that
comes very naturally to me. I’ve come to think of
fashion design as a form a sculpture that must be
functional. Fashion design is an art form like any
other; it’s something you have to have an eye for, as
well as something you love.
Hypothermic 2008: My collection was inspired by my first winter in New
York. My color story was pulled from the icy blues,
concrete grays and browns, and the bare trees of the
city. Winter is a whole new world for me. I love the
endless possibilities of layering garments and the
array of fabrics, while still keeping everything
balanced and proportional. This is a collection for a
young sophisticated girl, with a taste for the
avant-garde, and an eye for the eclectic. I want to
create pieces that could be seamlessly mixed into that
girl’s everyday wardrobe.
I see Fusion as a platform to display my design
aesthetic as well as show what I can produce. I see
this as a massive learning experience, to create this
collection on my own. Most of all I'm looking forward
to seeing garment take form and then finally see my
collection as a cohesive whole. This experience has
re-affirmed me that designing and making clothes is
what I want to do with my life.
