What is fashion to you? The four words that come to mind when I think of fashion are art, beauty, identity, and dynamic. These words are my motivation to become a fashion designer. Art is beautiful and we find it everywhere. Fashion is one of the major forms of art in our society. This is because fashion makes being “unique” and having an identity more than just a conscious thought, but it makes it a physical aspect. I want to create art that establishes people’s identities. As a designer, I want to create fashion that highlights the beauty within art and identity. Fashion is dynamic; it is constantly evolving and changing. This is what drives my desire to design. I find the process of how each fashion trend continues to transition into another very interesting and exciting. Thus, I always look forward to a challenge of designing clothes that keep up with the lively change of fashion trends, while still being distinct from current trends.
Collection: “Renaissance” - My collection consists of eveningwear inspired by the art and philosophy of the Renaissance. When I look back at our history, I find the Renaissance most interesting and stimulating. It was a period where art was greatly appreciated by many. In addition, it was a
period of rebirth, and many were beginning to become more inventive
through their inspiration from the past. I find this concept of “rebirth” to be just like fashion. Constantly, designers are taking ideas from the past to create new innovative designs. My collection highlights the different aspects the artists of the Renaissance put into their paintings, sculptures and architecture.
What/who inspires you? Being in a part of a small group, like Fusion, or being part of a large group, like F.I.T., I’m inspired by the environment and community. Surrounded by a group of people with common thoughts, interests, intellect and curiosity, it makes me feel like a significant piece to
the whole community. It keeps me determined to do whatever I can to continue to be an important part. Thus, it fuels my creativity, curiosity, passion and willpower.
What does Fusion mean to you? Two competitive schools coming together is a clear definition for the word “Fusion”. It is an important and great opportunity, where people with the same interests and passion for fashion come together, but also put aside their different backgrounds. Even though it is a competition, I think that is the spark of Fusion, it isn’t something
that turns the schools apart, but rather unites them. Competition
encourages each one of us to work harder, as well as gain inspiration
from others to better ourselves.
