What is fashion to you? To me, fashion is the most apparent form of self-expression a human being possesses. Ever since I was little, I have been fascinated how one can completely change their perception based on their choice of outfit. Fashion is an art. Its ability to transcend generations never ceases to amaze me. To this day, I am baffled by the fact that every piece of clothing worn was once just an idea. For me, fashion is deeper rooted. Designing pushes my self-expression to an even further level. It gives me such pride seeing my designs come to life, standing back and saying, “Wow, I did that”, usually followed by a deep sigh of both relief and exhaustion.

Collection: “Contrast” - In regards to my work for Fusion this year, I have never been more passionate about a collection. From the title, the concept is relatively self-explanatory. The centralized idea of the contracts lies most obviously within the color story: black, white, and shades of gray. Experimenting with silhouette and proportion, this collection is visually compelling. Throughout the collection, there is a strong tension between masculine verses feminine. Reflecting the central focus, numerous looks incorporate oversized menswear elements, while offsetting them with more feminine silhouettes. The choice of fabrications also reflects contrast. Heavy wool coats are paired with sheer organza blouses. Even though the color story is minimalist in nature, the fabrics themselves lend an extremely dynamic energy when paired together.

What/who inspires you? Everything.

What does Fusion mean to you? Fusion is such an amazing experience to be a part of. The process of Fusion is so unique in the fact that the designer has complete and utter control of their collection, which in the industry has become so rare. You are putting forth a collection just as you envisioned it in your mind. It gives designers the chance to form deep bonds with their fellow classmates and comrades from the opposing school, as they go through the grueling process that is Fusion. It really is not about which school wins or which designer is crowned the best, although amazing in their own right. The program is really about appreciating the work of your peers and acknowledging the hard work of young designers.
